Postdoc Fellow
Harvard Joslin Diabetes Center
Boston, MA, United States
Expires on January 15, 2021
Postdoctoral position at Joslin Diabetes Center / Harvard Medical School
Several postdoctoral positions are available in the context of a long-standing collaborative project between the laboratories of Drs. Peng Yi and Stephan Kissler at the Joslin Diabetes Center / Harvard Medical School.
Their labs use whole-genome CRISPR screening to investigate the mechanism controlling pancreatic beta cell proliferation, regeneration, neogenesis and beta cell protection against autoimmune destruction or alloimmunity in Type 1 Diabetes.
The Yi and Kissler labs are affiliated with the Harvard Stem Cell Institute and are part of the recently founded JDRF New England Center of Excellence.
The environment at Joslin is highly collaborative and the Yi and Kissler labs have strong ties to several other world-class groups with a focus on beta cell biology, autoimmunity and type 1 diabetes.
Drs. Yi and Kissler also head the core laboratories for CRISPR screening and mouse genome editing at Joslin. The labs have performed a series of whole genome loss-of-function and gain-of-function screens on beta cell protection against autoimmunity.
These screens led to the discovery of many novel target genes, signaling pathways and mechanisms that underlie type 1 diabetes onset and beta cell tolerance of autoimmunity.
The successful candidate(s) will be talented and enthusiastic researchers eager to drive projects that aim to understand the mechanism of action of these novel target genes.
The research may also entail designing and carrying out new CRISPR screens to investigate pancreatic beta cell compensatory growth, beta cell functions and beta cell tolerance of alloimmunity.
