We invite outstanding candidate with a strong background in molecular biology and/or immunology to join our NIH-funded research group to study the role of host cellular proteins in Influenza A Virus pathogenesis. Experience in virology and mouse model of diseases is a plus.

Our lab investigates the molecular mechanism how IAVs hijack and subvert host cellular processes to facilitate viral replication since this information will be useful in developing therapeutic host targets to treat the disease. 

We use cutting-edge molecular, genetic and proteomic approaches to study

1) how IAV uses host cellular proteins to promote its replication and pathogenesis in human airway epithelial cells;

2) to identify specific domains of viral proteins that interact with host cellular proteins to establish persistent infection and viral replication;

3) To identify and investigate specific gene polymorphisms that contributes to influenza disease severity in humans. 

Our approaches include biochemistry, cell biology, mouse genetics, and human genetics.

Our studies will have a significant impact on the field by dissecting key mechanisms that promote IAV replication. 

Our long-term goal is to develop peptides or small molecules that disrupt host-viral protein interactions toreduce viral replication and virus-induced pathology. 

Identifying the specific gene polymorphism in humans thatcontribute to influenza disease severity will help improve disease management and treatment.
