Job Description:
Description of Duties:
The incumbent will lead the creation of new informatics tools for the processing, interpretation, and annotation of epitranscriptomics data. This project is part of a broad effort aimed at the development of enabling technologies for the analysis of RNA modifications by mass spectrometry (MS), which include new tools for de novo interpretation of sequencing data, sequence alignment, interrogation of transcriptomics/genomics databases, and comprehensive annotation of incidence and distribution of RNA modifications. The project will be carried out at the University at Albany under Dr. D. Fabris’ supervision. The incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
Work with experimentalists to define the requirements for the prospected tool(s).
Survey the merits and features of existing tools.
Guide the selection of proper architecture, user interface, and type of output.
Write and troubleshoot code; help recruit and manage a team of coders.
Test functionality; enlist beta-testers and users; if necessary implement changes.
Write documentation and user manual; write publications; participate in dissemination.
The incumbent will be expected to use initiative in the planning and execution of the different tasks; to maintain the research productivity necessary to cultivate a presence in the scientific community; to develop a good understanding of how to best prioritize the various tasks according to the situation on the ground; to maintain the maximum possible flexibility to facilitate the solution of unforeseen problems. The incumbent will report directly to Dr. Fabris, the laboratory’s principal investigator.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree received within the past three years in computer sciences, engineering, or a life science-related field from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization with extensive experience in software development.
