Mississippi State University has a full PhD, CSC co-developed PhD, and visiting scholar program for spring, summer, or fall 2020 admission.
The main research directions of the research group include:
Research direction 1:
structural health monitoring and smart materials
The direction is equipped with experimental equipment: Polytech laser doppler vibration meter, Luna optical fiber measurement system, grating sensor, ultrasonic phased array detection system, Immersion ultrasonic c-scan system
Research direction 2:
processing and nondestructive testing of composite materials
The direction of the laboratory equipment: Robotic stitching machine, Programmable oven, high voltage test platform
Research direction 3:
acoustic metamaterials, phononic crystals
Experimental equipment equipped in this direction: three-dimensional measurement system of sound field in air, three-dimensional measurement system of sound field in underwater, Polytech laser doppler vibration meter (it can measure the ux, uy, uz three components of elastic wave in solid)
Research direction 4:
acoustic tweezers, cell manipulation, acoustic suspension
The direction is equipped with experimental equipment: microscope, optical test bed, a variety of ultrasonic sensors
Dr Group introduction:
Dr PI zhen-hua tian tian in 2008 undergraduate course graduated from north China electric power University, heat energy engineering, through joint training respectively after received a doctor’s degree in thermal engineering north China electric power University and the University of South Carolina PhD degree in mechanical engineering, then at Duke University in the United States (Duke University) Tony Jun Huang group engaged in postdoctoral research.During his postdoctoral career, he has worked with renowned professors, including Prof. Paul s. Weiss (UCLA, ACS Nano editor), professor of nanomaterials, and Prof. Steve Cummer (Duke University), professor of acoustics.Tian is currently an assistant professor in the school of aeronautical engineering at Mississippi state university.
Dr. Tian has published more than 30 SCI papers.This includes Science Advances (impact factor =12.8), Nature Communications (impact factor =11.88),In 2012 and 2014, Dr. Tian won the Student Best Paper Competition Awards in Smart Material, Adaptive Structures,And Intelligent Systems Conferences, ASME).
Deadline and requirements for full scholarship PhD applications
1. One of the following majors: solid mechanics, materials science, acoustics, vibration, control systems and science, precision instruments, automation, electrical and electronic engineering, engineering or physics.
2. Hardworking and steadfast, with team spirit, and good English and Chinese writing and communication skills.
3. If the undergraduate or master’s degree is taught in English, toefl and GRE are not required
4. Non-english teaching major, toefl IBT score of > 80, no GRE requirements
