Your tasks
You will contribute to a better understanding of how extreme events (e.g., drought, late frost) limit the success of tree regeneration under current and future environmental conditions. To that end you will
conduct an experiment on the effect of climatic extremes on tree seedlings across an elevation gradient from the submontane to the subalpine elevation belt,
replicate and extend the experiment (e.g., with regard to future climate conditions) in next generation walk-in climate chambers (https:// www. tummesa.de/en/)
analyze the interactive effect of climatic extremes on regeneration success and failure for different tree species
scale experimental findings up in space and time using simulation modeling to understand implications on the assembly of future tree communities, and
publish results in international peer-reviewed journals.
Your profile
excellent PhD in experimental ecology, extreme events ecology, disturbance ecology or a related field
experience with conducting experiments in situ as well as in controlled environments (climate chambers)
an understanding of mountain forest ecology is a plus
experience with using ecosystem models is beneficial
team player, excited about future forest development
willingness to publish and present research at workshops and conferences
prior experience in collaborative research settings is beneficial
fluency in English
We offer
work within a multidisciplinary research group at the frontier of the field
the possibility to further develop your research agenda within an international network of collaborators
