Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
The postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Horticulture at Washington State University will conduct research in computational biology. The candidate will use multi-omic data, statistical and machine learning and/or mathematical optimization techniques to perform association analyses, and systems-level modeling to explain the role of molecular gene products underlying pome fruit post-harvest physiological traits. The candidate will need good interpersonal skills to work closely with colleagues at the USDA ARS Physiology and Pathology Tree Fruits Research Unit and the College of Agriculture at Auburn University, as well as interact with key industry stakeholders, and train others.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, a Molecular Biology discipline with a computation emphasis, or related discipline.
Strong experience with R or Python.
Demonstrated experience in supervised machine learning.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of genomics and transcriptomics.
Experience with top-down systems-level correlative and explanatory models.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with deep learning.
Experience with mathematical optimization.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to complete research projects and write peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively as a member of a research team.
