美国北卡罗莱纳州立大学博士后职位—细胞生物物理学
Postdoctoral Research Scholar
North Carolina State University
Description
We are seeking a postdoctoral research scholar to work with Assistant Professor Mary Elting in cellular biophysics.
The candidate will be performing experiments to monitor the mechanics of the mitotic spindle in live cells and organisms, and will be reconstituting spindle proteins in vitro. The candidate must have a PhD in biophysics, physics, cell biology, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience in at least some of the following areas: cellular biophysics, cytoskeletal biophysics, in vitro reconstitution of cytoskeletal proteins, exerting force on cytoskeletal proteins in vivo and/or in vitro, monitoring the quantitative response, and/or quantitative data analysis (including programming experience). Useful skills include: significant experience with biophysical techniques (such as single molecule or cellular biophysics), protein purification, in vitro reconstitution, quantitative image analysis, basic programming skills for data analysis, communication of scientific results to an interdisciplinary audience. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersections of biology and physics. The ideal candidate will also be able to learn new tools independently and to work on multiple (related) projects simultaneously.
You can learn more about the research in the Elting Laboratory here:https: // physics.ncsu.edu/eltinglab/
Duties and Responsibilities
Measuring the response of S. pombe and mammalian cytoskeletal proteins to force both in vivo and in vitro. Reconstituting assemblies of cytoskeletal proteins. Performing protein design to generate chimeras of S. pombe and mammalian proteins. Quantitative data analysis. Some instrument development/design. Publish the findings of the research in scientific journals and provide supporting data for future grant proposals to ensure continued funding of the project.
Inclusiveness and diversity are critical to the success of the College of Sciences and the University. The selected candidate will be expected to foster an environment that is supportive and welcoming of all groups.
Other Work/Responsibilities
The Postdoc will meet regularly with Dr. Mary Williard Elting and the rest of the team to discuss project progress, manuscript preparation, and mentoring. They will also travel to conferences and workshops to present results of research experiments, to visit collaborators, and to learn additional research techniques.
Requirements and Preferences
Work Schedule 40 hours/week
