Description
Postdoctoral Researcher
Department of Oncology, Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington, Oxford OX3 7DQ
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Dr Timothy Humphrey’s laboratory within the Department of Oncology at the University of Oxford. Radiotherapy kills tumour cells by generating DNA double-strand breaks which must be repaired in the context of chromatin. The role of this job will be to explore the role of chromatin remodelling in DSB repair and how mutations disrupting this can be targeted in particular cancers.
You will undertake research into the therapeutic targeting of particular chromatin remodelling-deficient cancers, manage your own academic research and administrative activities which involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines, adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols, test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate.
You will also collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters.
This is a full time post available on a two-year fixed term contract in the first instance.
About you
You will hold (or be near to completing) a PhD/DPhil Oncology or related subject, possess strong knowledge of chromatin remodelling and the DNA damage response and have previous experience in using CRISPR and performing synthetic lethal targeting screens.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings is essential.
Previous experience in gene therapy and using small inhibitory compounds would be advantageous.
