Job Details:
General Notes
Prof. S. Stephen Yi’s lab at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in Bioinformatics, Genetics and Systems Biology starting immediately. We have a longstanding interest in the fundamental question on genotype-phenotype relationships. Prof. Yi is Director of Bioinformatics at Livestrong Cancer Institutes and a faculty member at Dell Medical School, the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering & Sciences as well as the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UT Austin. Prof. Yi is a recognized expert in systems biology, network medicine and functional genomics/proteomics. Recent representative publications include Cell (2015), 161: 647-60; Nature Rev. Genetics (2017), 18: 395-410; Cell (2017), 168: 856-66; Cancer Cell (2018), 33: 450-62; TIBS (2018), 43: 576-92; Cancer Research (2020), 80: 4854-67; Nucleic Acids Res (2021), 49: e2. Purpose
In the era of precision medicine, we integrate high-throughput functional variomics with single cell systems biology to identify genetic and epigenetic biomarkers, and synthetic lethal mechanisms underlying human disease for personalized medicine. Using state-of-the-art technologies, the postdoctoral research will be performed in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with pioneering basic science experts and clinical physician scientists, which provide ideal career development opportunities for postdocs.
Responsibilities
Perform bioinformatics data analyses and integrative mechanistic studies in a collaborative environment. These projects utilize functional data from cell lines, Patient Derived Xenograft (PDX) models and cancer patients.
Use systems and computational biology, bioinformatics, and proteomics approaches to identify genetic and epigenetic biomarkers, and synthetic lethal mechanisms underlying cancer and immunity for personalized medicine.
Perform data analyses include genomics, proteomics, network biology, epigenetics and next-generation sequencing.
Publish manuscripts, write and edit grants, progress reports.
Participate in the design of a project. Lead a research effort in the direction set forth by the PI and the specific project.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) received in the last three (3) years in bioinformatics, computational/systems biology, human genetics, cancer biology, or relevant fields. The Dell Medical School is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity and excellence within the learning health system. At the Dell Medical School we strive to create a vital, inclusive health ecosystem. To ensure alignment, we follow these fundamental values: https://dellmed.utexas.edu/culture.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cancer genomics, single cell sequencing, and next-generation sequencing is a plus.
