The Position
The successful candidate will be based in the Climate and Ocean Geosciences group within the Research School of Earth Sciences.
We seek applications from motivated and creative scientists for a 2-year, fixed-term Postdoctoral/Research Fellow position in marine biogeochemistry. The position forms part of ARC Discovery Project aimed at better understanding the interactions between iron, copper and Southern Ocean phytoplankton growth.
Key science duties include 1) Undertaking culture experiments involving phytoplankton, 2) determining trace element concentration and isotope composition of cells samples using state-of-the-art methods with MC-ICP-MS, 3) isolation and characterisation of proteins involved in electron transport and 4) evaluate the links between trace elements and isotopes and cellular functioning.
The Person
To excel in this role you will have:
A PhD (or awarding of a PhD within six months of appointment commencement), or equivalent qualifications and experience in a related area, with a track record of independent research in the field of e.g. marine biogeochemistry, biological oceanography, or similar;
Demonstrated research experience as evidenced by publications and independent research of a high international standard in culturing marine phytoplankton under trace metal clean conditions
Complementary skills to the position include:
Experience in trace element and isotope analysis by ICPMS
Protein separation using western blotting techniques.
