Position description
The Roger Bales Lab at UC Merced is looking for a self-motivated and highly qualified post-doctoral researcher to work on a collaborative, multi-benefit project aimed at scaling up climate solutions in California. The candidate is expected to undertake spatial modeling and analysis to built and natural infrastructure, including solar over open water canals and related investments. The work will involve using GIS-based software and other analysis tools. The individual should be driven and have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent scientific research. The candidate is expected to:
· Compile, merge, and analyze spatial and point data
· Produce produce maps and conceptual designs of solutions
· Carry out economic valuation analysis using developed protocols
· Prepare peer-reviewed publications
· Present outcomes in various workshops and conferences

Qualifications
Basic qualifications
Applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree in a relevant environmental science, engineering, or social science area. Experience with relevant research, interdisciplinary projects needed. Knowledge of GIS and spatial analysis is required as well as strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
Some familiarity with water resources and/or ecosystem services.
