Description:
The UI Health Department of Emergency Medicine (EM), through the AI.Health4All Center for Health Equity using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct research in the area of machine learning and natural language processing for the detection of substance use disorders. This position will be focused on using natural language processing and machine learning to develop classifiers for substance use disorders to aid clinical management and developing data pipelines using the electronic medical record.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in machine learning and natural language processing. Candidates with expertise using healthcare data from the electronic health record are preferred. Communication and writing skills are required along with success in previous academic research. Selected candidates will be expected to collaborate with team members, design and manage research projects, and present reports and publish peer-reviewed journal articles.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field
- Experience in programming ML, AI, and NLP
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, SQL, and/or Java.
- Experience in healthcare AI/ML is highly desire
- Excellent problem-solving skills, independent thought, and the ability to manage multiple projects

The postdoc will have the opportunity to work closely with both professors and their teams and will be encouraged to develop their independent research ideas.
