Job Summary
Work in discovery and development of new drug candidates targeting neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Ensure lab safety, conduct experiments, and keep detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic records in compliance with federal, state, and university rules and regulations.
- Perform basic molecular biology experiments (DNA cloning, plasmid preparation, site directed mutagenesis, and in vitro transcription).
- Collect oocytes from Xenopus laevis and use them to study ion channel receptors pharmacology.
- Maintain mammalian cell lines, extract protein and RNA, and perform Western blot and RTqPCR analyses.
- Perform two-electrode voltage-clamp and patch-clamp electrophysiological recordings.
- Assist in maintaining work area, equipment, glassware clean and orderly.
- Assist in maintaining lab inventory of supplies, chemicals, and stock solution.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- Appropriate doctoral (PhD) degree in pharmacology, biochemistry, or related fields. Proven record of research training and productivity.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Extensive experience in electrophysiological recording techniques or in vivo pharmacology.

- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self or others in compliance with NIH guidelines.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
