About the Opportunity

Job Summary:

The focus of this role is on the security of embedded and IoT systems. Specifically, the candidate will work on both offensive and defensive research approaches for systems such as ARM Cortex-A, Cortex-M, Cortex-R, and Xilinx FPGA SoCs. The following outlines the responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Researcher:
Responsibilities: 

• Conduct cutting-edge research on the security of embedded and IoT systems.
• Develop and implement offensive security techniques to identify vulnerabilities in systems such as ARM Cortex-A, Cortex-M, Cortex-R, and Xilinx FPGA SoCs.
• Design and evaluate defensive strategies to protect these systems from potential threats.
• Collaborate with other researchers and industry partners to apply research findings to real-world scenarios.
• Publish research results in high-impact conferences and journals.
• Mentor graduate students and contribute to the academic community.
• Assist in writing grant proposals to secure funding for future research projects.

Qualifications: 

• Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent.
• Ability to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship.
• Capability to work under the supervision of a senior scholar.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior research experience in embedded systems security.
• Research experience in embedded trusted execution environments, control flow attestation, control flow integrity, and binary analysis.
• Research experience in embedded FPGA SoCs.
• Technical expertise in FPGA configurations such as Vivado, Verilog, and VHDL.
• Strong knowledge of embedded systems architecture (preferably ARM) and ISA.
• Prior working experience in embedded bare-metal applications, drivers, and RTOS.
• Strong background in C, C++, x86 assembly, and ARM assembly.
• Significant knowledge of the LLVM compiler and demonstrated expertise in LLVM pass development.
• Published papers in strong peer-reviewed conferences focused on embedded systems security.
• Prior working experience in Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions, including Embedded CTFs.
