About This Opportunity
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work with Dr Pranesh Padmanabhan at the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS) and the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Centre (CJCDAR) at the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI). This position is supported by an NHMRC EL2 Investigator grant (2024 to 2029).
This Postdoctoral Research Fellow will use neuronal cultures, animal and human tissues, advanced imaging, biochemical techniques and omics approaches to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease. There will be plenty of opportunities to develop interdisciplinary skills, co-supervise students, and apply for external grants and fellowships.
The team has access to SBMS and QBI’s state-of-the-art super-resolution microscopy, animal experimentation, and computing facilities. The team is well-funded by NHMRC and ARC grants and benefits from an extensive network of collaborators, including Prof Jürgen Götz (CJCDAR director), A/Prof Victor Anggono (CJCDAR), Prof Trent Woodruff (SBMS), Prof Narendra Dixit (IISc, India) and Dr Rajat Desikan (GSK, UK).
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conduct and analyse research on Alzheimer’s disease, contribute to quality research outputs, and seek competitive funding.
- Co-supervise and support research students, develop research group skills, and manage research staff effectively.
- Demonstrate citizenship aligned with UQ values, collaborate on group activities, and support academic and administrative tasks as needed.

About You
- Completion or near completion of a PhD in the discipline area of molecular and cellular biology or a related biological discipline.
- Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals.
- Experience with cell lines, primary neuronal cultures, and animal experimentation is necessary.
- Experience with human-derived cells is desirable.
- Experience in molecular biology and biochemical techniques including cloning, mutagenesis, lentiviral vector preparation and transduction, PCR, and CRISPR genome editing, is necessary.
- Experience in advanced imaging techniques, such as super-resolution microscopy, is desirable.
- Experience with imaging-based spatial proteomics is highly desirable.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a multidisciplinary team, with strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Experience or familiarity with omics approaches
