The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit Postdoctoral Research Associates to support the work of Dr Craig Beall and Dr Tom Piers. These externally funded posts are available from 1st October 2024 on a fixed-term basis of initially one year, with a second year of funding to be released after a satisfactory progress report at nine months.
The successful applicants will perform laboratory-based research using cell culture models to investigate cell therapies for Type 1 Diabetes. Candidates with prior experience in diabetes research or neuroscience/stem cell biology are encouraged to apply but candidates with relevant experience from other disciplines are also encouraged to apply. We are also recruiting a graduate research assistant in this round (advert reference P96792), to support the project and the work of the two postdoctoral researchers.
The post will include performing 2D and 3D tissue culture using human cell models. There will also be work using organoid and organ-on-a-chip to develop advanced human-relevant in vitro models.
A significant component of work will require experience of cell biology including imaging studies, ELISAs and multiplexing, cell signalling and cell-to-cell communication.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals, reports and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to work to agreed timelines and milestones and maintain excellent written records and excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate activities with the other team members directly involved in this project.
