Synthetic Biology Post-Doctoral Position at Penn State for Capturing Methane and Converting It Into Biofuels & Bioplastics
Pennsylvania State University
Job Description
A post-doctoral position is available immediately for microbiologists, molecular biologists, biochemical engineers, and geneticists interested in converting methane into biofuels and bioplastics via a $3.2M grant from NSF. A Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular microbiology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering, or a related field with a strong background in molecular biology is desired as well as a strong desire to learn about archaeal physiology. Applicants should have a successful peer-reviewed publication history (at least two published manuscripts as a first author) and be in a position to begin within the next six months. We recently created a gene circuit for reversing methanogenesis for the first time in a methanogen and used it to create the first microbial fuel cell that runs on methane https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms15419). Our publications include those in Nature Biotechnology, Nature Chemical Biology, Nature Communications, PLoS Pathogens, PNAS, Nature ISMEJ, Microb. Biotechnol., J. Molecular Biology, Infect. Immun., Molecular Systems Biology, Environ. Microbiol., J. Bacteriol., BMC Microbiology, Biofilms, and Appl. Environ. Microbiol. Dr. Wood has 348 publications to date (yielding an H index of 107) and has placed 19 researchers in academe.
