2025-2028 Hans G. Dehmelt Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Physics Department of the University of Washington is pleased to invite applicants to the inaugural Hans G. Dehmelt Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, in honor of 1989 Nobel Laureate Professor Hans Dehmelt. Dehmelt Postdoctoral Fellowship awards are intended to support outstanding early career researchers in physics, who have recently been awarded, or who are about to be awarded, their Ph.D. degree or equivalent.
2025-2028 Dehmelt Fellowships: Nomination deadline September 22, 2024. Completed application deadline October 20, 2024.
- Dehmelt Fellowships are awarded for a period of three years. Appointments must commence before September 30, 2025.
- Dehmelt Fellows are provided a salary of $84,000 per year plus a research fund of $10,000 per year to be used in support of research and professional travel during their Fellowship.
- A relocation incentive of $3,000 is provided to assist with moving expenses.

Applicants cannot have had more than two years (24 months) of postdoctoral experience from other institutions. Nominees may not hold a paid or unpaid position on the UW Seattle campus at the time of nomination or throughout the competition and award cycle. Eligible nominees will be invited to apply for the fellowship after the nomination has been reviewed and accepted. Direct applications or self-nominations are not accepted.

The base salary range for this position will be $7,000/month ($84,000/year), or as mandated by the U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Qualifications
Applicants are required to have obtained or have completed all requirements for the degree of Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Physics or a related field before the start of the appointment.

That can, but need not be, their PhD advisor. Self-nominations and nominations from faculty at the University of Washington will not be considered.
